He was a music man.
He learned to play mean guitar back in the war of Vietnam.
Then he and his friends started a band.
They had a hit song called “Lonesome Stand”.

He always used to play his guitar.
He would sometimes play it in the town bar.
People told him he would go far.
But, he died in a wreck with another car.

When he was a kid, he was a young, ordinary boy.
Never had many toys.
Had a good friend during the war named Roy.

He was a kid you would’ve wanted to meet.
He was always kind and so very neat.
With a smile he would always greet.
Then, he would play you an awesome guitar feat.
He never complained once about going to school.
Actually thought it was kind of cool.
He also never acted like a fool.

He joined the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) Corp.
Went through the struggles till he was called off to war.
In his heart it tore.
He wished the battle bloodshed could be no more.
Saw it as an unnecessary chore.

When he got out, he met a girl that he would soon marry.
They had a happy life- having four children- the first being named Will, the second Teresa, the third Ben, and the fourth Gary.
He worked for a local car ferry across the Chesapeake Bay.

When they built a great bridge across that bay,
his family lost their pay.
But they wouldn’t have to wait many a day.
Because another job came his way.

He and his friends started their own band.
His next job was at a quarry that made sand.
They became famous and released quite a few songs.
People came to see them in excited throngs.
They were sometimes welcomed to the stage by the sound of gongs.

Yes, he was a music man.
He today still has many a fan.
For the office of governor of his state he ran.
Until his life ended with a wreck in the family van.

All were greatly sad that he died.
His wife and kids cried and cried.
They knew he had never once lied.
But he had always tried.
He was a music man.

This poem is dedicated to my best friend: Zachary Winkworth. He is really music oriented playing a couple of instruments including the guitar.
It is also dedicated to all the soldiers who have fought in all wars. We remember the great service and sacrifice they have paid for the freedom that we enjoy in this country called the U.S.A.
