The glass slippers were laid,
Such big shoes to fill.
Baby girl will try so hard,
Too bad she never will.

Boy with sweet words,
Fed her lies from sweet lips.
Better came along,
And away he slipped.

She slid her feet on in,
Stepped on into the light.
He’d wronged her,
The shoes fit just right.

Misstep after misstep,
Fragile cracks in the glass.
Little girl tried to hold on,
But innocence is never bound to last.

The truth is free,
The closet’s bare.
Little girl no more,
How could she dare?

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Where’s little girl now?
All the king’s horses and men search,
But little girl’s not to be found.

Tiny footprints of blood,
Lay tracks in the snow.
Where little girls go,
I don’t think anyone knows.

For she ran as fast as she could,
Leaving only scarlet footprints behind.
For another sad little girl,
To which the shoes have been assigned.

A poem I wrote about the unfair expectations of young women.
