I'm stalked by an unseen matter
Feeling uneasy in my stomach
I try to escape
To run and hide
But we always meet up
Staring at each other face to face
Lies filling my ears
It twist me into a person that society sees fit
Using myself against me
My reflection confirms the lies as truth
I'm beated up and left to die
As bystanders walk on

My true self hides deep inside
Shrinking back in fear all the time
Only to rise to the surface when my eyes drift to sleep
Then the world opens up
It transforms into a series of images plagued by bright colors
Flashing for what feels like seconds
But I know to be hours
All too soon I'm greeted with the sound of my alarm signaling daybreak
Bringing back the enemy to me
For reality haunts the mind
The only escape is to sleep

This is a extended metaphor poem that was assigned for a class assignment. I hope you all enjoy!
The metaphor is comparing reality to an enemy you have.
