Falling
My gaze is intent, watching red droplets whisk.
I shudder to feel their gentle breeze.
But my soul settles down despite all the lies
Yes, as my heart tightens, my soul comes unwound.
But no, I can’t quite grasp what is happening,
But children are playing, in spite of all things.
I follow with my eyes, as they fall from the sky,
As, shyly and coyly, they dance about me.
But dire! Inside, something’s stirred to disturbance.
Droplets, now disks, I witness their slow, lowly spin.
And like hellfire confetti, they land, and with a great show!
On children’s sweet heads, they simply dissolve
In a burst of hideous laughter unheard.
