"Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length" -Robert Frost

I asked Liliana one day on the shore
Why she deemed life with me such a bore
She looked at me with her glazed over eyes
And gave a simple, short little sigh
Then said:

"I've spent all my life collecting the sand in my shoes
And since forever it's been just me and you
I've walked this beach so long my hair melted in the sunlight. Oh God!
I've told Him I need something more
Yet and still He gives me just you and this shore."

Liliana's lonely eyes searched mine for an answer
In a moment of perplexion my thoughts churned faster
I buried my face in newly washed up seashells
With hopes that I could feel the sensation of Hell
Because the chilling touch of Liliana's regret
Was one of a touch I would never forget.

My relationship with one of my older sisters inspired me to write this poem. I love to ask people what they think the relationship between the narrator and Liliana is. Some say that they are lovers so say they are brother and sister, mother and daughter. It's really interesting to look through someone else's perspective of the poem.
