Emotive Summer Night
The circle smells like summer and asphalt.
White light moves in deliberate swirls, dancing.
At the top of tomorrow waits the next.
Mischief smells like rotten eggs and little
boy breath, panting slowly. The whisper looks
like a crocheted scarf hanging loosely ‘round
sagging shoulders. But is summer of hope?
The past fits inside broken bones and hearts.
When you see leaves unfold, you might be sad,
like the hiding place of rain, shivering
underneath swollen blue-black clouds and eyes.
