I would like to be a bird
Soar high in the sky
Birds are not like us
They are not as cruel

“Lord let me fly”
Away from this world
Away from the pain
The loss the suffering

“Lord let me fly”
Away from this place
In this camp they drown in seas of tears
Away from my family
All alone

“Lord let me fly”
Not let me torture one more poor soul
Separate child and mother like so

“Lord let me fly”
And fly I will
Not an eagle
Not a dove

“Herr lass mich eine Krähe sein
meine schrecklichen Taten
unvergänglich
Verzweiflung und Leid”

“Lord let me be a crow
My terrible deeds
Everlasting
Despair and woe”

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this while learning about the Holocaust in school. I hope that after reading this people take time to reflect on the terrible things that were done to these people.
