A metaphor
An analogy
A simile
An allusion
And an alliteration for good measure
Checked off the list
There I have poetry.
I have a master piece that commands respect
Thanks so dearly for creating this assignment
I am sure that my poetry will vastly improve
If not for you I would be hopelessly confused
Baffled by the principles of literature
Had it not been for this assignment I would have been lost
Somewhere between the metaphor and analogy I would have taken the wrong turn
Was I to go left?
Why is it that of so many paths I was to choose just this one?
Why am I confined to this box, trapped inside like a mime?
Stuck.
Poetry isn’t a list of literate principles or any grouping of words
Poetry is more than that
I will not be confined
I will not be trapped in this box
I will break free
I will create a masterpiece!
