Study
Study till we bleed,
Study till we cry
So the lives that we “lead”
Will be great when we die.
Yet the pencil we are told to grasp
Writes words that fade into the past.
Avogadro’s number and the Pythagorean Theorem
Replace our voices so they cannot hear them.
Then we talk a test to decide our fate.
Everything we are is summed up in two digits.
However hard we try it will never be great
Even at a thirty we are told to retake it.
The dreams we make and the futures we plan
Are all at the hands of a test that is scanned.
Our crazy dreams and hopeful aspirations
Are “unrealistic” in the world of configuration.
We are brainwashed so there is no moment of realization
That there is more out there than the geometric location.
We have one single moment of elation
As we realize what we truly love.
Then we are beaten down into a recession
As we are choked by an iron glove.
Yet so little of us realize
That we have an iron fist.
So look your oppressor in the eye
And claim what you would sorely miss.
Those who challenge you never had the chance,
So walk down your path without a backward glance,
And never let a test score define who you are.
