Black Water
Black Water rolling down the river
I dip my feet in
and it makes me shiver
The humid Mississippi air,
dragonflies droning on
without any care
The slippery mud beneath my feet
coats my leg
with a smell of beets?
I stroll around the banks
soaking in the sun
in nothing but shorts and a tank
Breathe in the sweet air and when I stride
I trip and fall in Black Water
and am swept into its endless tide
Black Water rolling down the river
The crushing waters
make me shiver
