The luckiest man on the face of the Earth,
That's what he called himself,
He stood in front of a microphone, dying,
For a long time, it had dwindled, his health,

In his prime, man, what a player,
He the number 4 to Ruth's 3,
Backing him up in the order,
And man, his swing looked so free,

He easily made the Hall of Fame,
Leaving on the game his mark,
With 493 homers to his name,
He sure hit it out of the park,

Lou Gehrig is remembered many ways,
The Iron Horse is one,
for all those games he played in a row,
Because for him, baseball was fun,

But he's also remembered a different way,
With the disease that bears his name,
Because on that one fateful day,
The luckiest man sealed his fame,

He stood in front of a large crowd,
In the House that Ruth Built,
And bringing cheers that were very loud,
You could tell he had no guilt,

He played his heart out every day,
And was pretty good at it, too,
Yup, that luckiest man on the face of the Earth,
He was a good man through and through.

I play baseball myself, and have been inspired by the story of Lou Gehrig... I wear number 4 to honor him, a great baseball player and person...
