I Am Hermes
I am Hermes
I wear silver wings upon my feet
 And a silver winged hat
I carry with me a staff
Made of two brawling snakes coming to a friendship
Forever a bond, restraining their hate with temperance
 The music of the lyre
Saved Hermes from trouble with Apollo
 His biggest fear
 Had failed to reshow
An empty turtle shell and seven strings
Made beautiful music to those who were listening
And Hermes had great skill with the instrument he'd made
But he made a mistake and his father needed him to obey
To lead Apollo to his herd of oxen, yet on the way
Was set aside by an exchange of the lyre and cattle given to young Hermes that day
For Hermes was a thief from birth
But his mother failed to believe the words
And Hermes had a good way of acting innocent
Which got many people to believe him
 Now Hermes has become popular
Directing the dead in the Underworld as a guide
Bringing dreams to mortals, and for sure
Helping those who have committed suicide
Hermes is fast and swift on his feet
He is well known throughout Greece
He is calm and mischievous and often quiet
And he is currently the symbol of the Greek post office
