An Angel in the Snow
A brother and sister
take a seat
in the powdered sugar
that conceals the frostbitten Earth.
The landscape is like
a crisp,
white,
piece of paper
that is begging to be written on;
a blank canvas
which beckons to be painted.
The sky is a foggy window
on a rainy day.
God wipes a peephole
with his mighty hand
to observe the spectacle below,
and the sun breaks free
from the cage of clouds;
for the goodness of God,
His love,
and His power,
cannot be contained.
The light beams down
upon the boy's chest,
illuminating his heart.
Just then,
a photo is snapped
of the boy and the girl
with wind-slapped cheeks
and grinning faces.
What a sweet photo,
it is.
One that captures
the innocence of childhood
and the unbreakable bond
of family.
It wasn't until
the photo was developed,
that the family noticed
the miracle
that had occurred;
for just beyond
those wind-slapped cheeks
and grinning faces
lay a baby,
a brother,
a son,
whose earthly life
was short lived,
but whose life with God
endures.
Upon this discovery,
a mother could be seen
with one hand on her heart,
and the other clasping the photograph-
a final, consoling message
sent to a grieving family
from above.
A little warrior,
with wings of his own,
lounges on a bed of snow,
under the watchful eyes of nearby angels.
Cloaked in the warmth
of God's abundant compassion,
he sleeps
ever so peacefully,
in that serene way that only infants can.
Safe
and sound,
carefree,
and far from the harsh reality
of the world,
he sleeps.
And with that,
a salty tear
rolls down her cheek,
but just the same,
a smile creeps across her face.
After a period of darkness
and mourning
a mother's eyes
are opened to the eternal light of God.
Let it be known,
that even on an ordinary day,
God makes himself known
in an extraordinary way.
