Broken Binding
After work today
I came home
and took on the couch
I was so tired
And they looked at me, scolding:
You know better than to stay up late
reading novels.
But today
(and every day)
It was only my joints creaking
laughing at the imaginary novel
and wincing at the same time
with the weight of my ribcage
bearing down on its broken binding
How do I explain that?
The one time you notice
how tired I really am
it was not after a night
with 2 a.m. pleading phone calls
anxiety attacks
or crying myself anything and everything but
asleep
