I hold on to the times before this
Before memories were lost
Before promises were broken
Before tears were shed
I hold on to the times before this
Before your lies
Before your mistakes
Before your burdens
I can't honed on to the times before this
I can't pretend that broken pieces are whole
I can't be fooled by that charming smile
I can't put on a mask and act like it's fine
And yet I must hold on to the times before this
If only to remember to be cautious
If only so that I might not fall again
If only so that I can be your friend again
