"Life? Don't talk to me about life. Here I am, brain the size of a planet and... oh, never mind" -Marvin, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams

We have a fear of the dark, an odd apprehension for the unknown. Every night you check the shadows, make sure you’re alone, make sure there’s nothing lurking there, waiting to do… what? Once we know we’re alone, we head upstairs, to our beds, still uneasy. As you brush your teeth, you check the mirror, glancing at it constantly. We lie, snug in our beds, and know we’re alone. Yet, once we are alone, the you inside of you comes out. That awful, nagging voice in your head, with its “What Ifs”. What if? And you realize, the alone is what you were afraid of most. Afraid to see yourself in the mirror. Afraid to see all you could’ve done. All you should’ve done in your life. That other you, chewing into you on the inside, leaving you hollow.
