Assassin
The world is silent
The immortal gods of the forest, burdened with seasons, slumber onward
They are frozen under the stars, soaked with drops of silver
It is in their shadows I lurk
 Dancing to the music
 Of silence

 I am ready
My tools gleam in the fragile moonlight
And every glimmer of silver is like a stone breaking a pool of ice
Peace is broken, and sent scattering into the darkness
 I stand in the middle
 Silent and waiting

 It is my time
The earth trembles, a murder of crows explode from the hushed wood
I hear the wheels thunder past, crashing and bashing
Destruction is left in their wake
As the queen’s men march by
 Guarding the head worth thousands

 Cloaked in shadows
I spy the glittering jewel, strutting past, glowing beneath the wealth and gold and scarlet
 I cannot ignore it
 Notch
 Aim
 Fire

 My arrow found its mark
The target, a crippled doll bathed in crimson, flies through the air
 A broken toy
 The soldiers, good little boys
 They load, they aim
 But I am gone
 There is only silence
