The pledge of allegiance
Standing up, placing my hand over my heart. It used to mean something, but now it’s a routine to start. The words like venom leave an all familiar sting and none of us know why we have to say this thing. It used to be for respect to call all the men that died but now is just a motion we go through all the time. The words never leave my lips; I just stand and stare at the flag waving high above, wondering why it’s there.
