School days
I rode that milky way to school and back with a lollipop in my hand and smiles on my knees and elbows,
Dipping my toes in holy water letting my bosom hang out drawing shapes with my belly button,
At home my backpack spilled homework and worksheet I did not do, and the letter my teacher sent home branded my palm like a scar,
Mama poured me some juice and made me a treat while I dropped my scar in the trash and hoped she'd never see.
