Dying Lures the Senses
There's only so much you can do
When your fingers are tipped with ice,
Your legs slowly melting
To nothing.
Your eyes
A blink away
From darkness.
Only so much you can say
When your voice
Is but a wisp
Of empty smoke,
Words turned to vapor
As they hit the wounded air.
And only so much you can love
When your heart
Is a black rock,
Weighing you down,
Each feeble beat
Only hurting
Your already wounded soul.
As you close
Your marble eyes,
Your stone heart
Beats once more,
A flickering flame before it is snuffed,
As if to say
It will not go out in despair.
One last shout of defiance
Before,
With its head held high,
My life walks unto silence.
