Vines
She showed me herself
Bare and trodden with dirt
Specks of green dotting her flesh
Like a chameleon for sale
Glass walls penetrating
The eerie Plexiglas grin
Distorted into a strange sort of frown
Was it six o' clock,
Or merely a trick of the mind?
That I last smelled her breath
Her strange, exotic aroma
That seeped into my skin
And filled my heart with warmth
Now an empty, desolate husk
Occupies my mind
There is no comfort to seek
From running away
This jungle of pain
This ghostly terror
That stills the air I breath
And taints my flesh
Dark shadows that twisted
And ran every which way
Making a labyrinth from this joke
After all, what was left of it,
But a joke?
This pitiful body
Leftover form a lifetime of pain
Of hopeless love and certain betrayal
When she used to sleep beside me
Her hair was like the forest
Locks of vines tumbling
And intertwining with my soul
Knots and runs of tender shoots
Grabbing at me, pulling me through
Telling me that, yes,
This was the truth
As I look back
I find myself crying
Why am I crying?
