"Once when i was a young boy, my mother told me the purpose of life is to be happy. Later on, in elementary school, one teacher gave me a paper and told me to write on it what i wanted to be later on in life. I wrote 'To be happy'. -John Lennon

Another day in the grind of high school life
The white noise of background chatter
Pierced only by the occasional person who decides to be louder than the rest
Grating against my frayed nerves like stone fingernails on a chalkboard

I quietly unwind the tangled mess of wires in my pocket
Revealing two copper colored ear buds and a jack of the same color
Held together by one thin strand of black-rubber coated copper wire
My way out of this place

I connect the ear buds to my trusty MP3 player
Colored a deep black, the same as most of my clothes
Lightly tamp in those copper ear buds into the canal of my ear
And power up the device

I watch as the once blank screen lights up with LED’s
Showing me the names of my dear friends, the musicians
Scrolling through the countless names, I find a door to leave this place
And escape into a beautiful soundscape

The notes override my auditory sense
Removing me from my current surroundings
And transporting me to a place I’d much rather be
In other words, anywhere but there

I close my eyes and envision a perfect place
Where my friends and I can exist in peace
Far away from the prejudice of man
And the troubles of our realities

I smile and exist there for a while
Reveling in being in such a wonderful place
A world shaped by a musical scale and my imagination
And enjoy every minute I get to spend there
