Christmas
Do you remember how we would be on
Christmas morning?
All innocence and excitement- for a birthday that
Wasn't ours?
We'd go to midnight mass, everyone
Would dress up,
And you'd take pictures of us as we opened presents:
The excitement and wonder
Captured forever
Where did our innocence go?
My impatience has waned, my learning has grown,
And Santa Clause doesn't exist.
And though I ask,
I know the answer;
We went to go buy presents-
And realized how much they cost.
That's where our innocence went!
