People Change and so do You
As a kid I liked people,
I would watch them pass by and smile at me,
Everyone seemed so happy and nice,
The world seemed like a safe place,
And as I got into middle school
My view didn’t really change,
As I watched people pass
They still seemed mostly nice and happy,
Maybe a little less nice.
Some things did change,
And I grew up a little,
I learned more,
Made new friends,
Had harder classes,
But over all,
The world was still a safe place,
But then I got to high school,
That’s when I learned,
The world wasn’t a safe place,
It broke people,
Ruined their innocence,
I could finally see the people that passed me,
They weren’t happy,
Not in the least,
They wore fake smiles to hide the pain,
Or none at all,
They weren’t nice either,
They said hateful things,
Trying to break you,
Just as they had been broken,
And that’s when I realized,
I am the same way,
I don’t know when it happened,
But somewhere along the way,
I had been broken too,
I am wearing fake smiles now,
And I am breaking people,
I have lost my innocence,
But through it all I am growing,
I am changing,
So now that I look at my life,
I realize I have begun to out grown my friends,
I don’t want to hang around them as much,
They still have some of their innocence left,
And I won’t take that away from them,
So now as I look around and people pass me,
I can see that the world is not a safe place at all.
