The Lady on the Bench
The lady with her floral headscarf
Looked at her son playing in the sandbox
With her eyes glazed over and bloodshot
As if she were having a nightmare.
The Load of love is difficult to carry
when your shoes aren’t made for the journey
And when wishes and false promises
Have left you exhausted like this lady on the bench
Who has to dream with her eyes
Open because she has no other
Choice and hope her son won’t stop
Playing any time soon.
