The ball
A sudden burst of wind
A few girls shrieking
A few boys staring
And a shy girl all in the corner
This dance was supposed to be fun
But she has come and did what she expected
To hide in the corner
Hoping someone would come by
That someone would tell her she looked lovely
And they would dance the night away
She knew it would never come
She wasn't rich
And she wasn't lovely
And nobody wanted her
She didn't know in fact he was waiting
Waiting on his carriage
He was going to be late
The dance was half way in
Stupid driver he thought
He soon gave up and walked the short distance to the dance
He didn't need a carriage he scoffed
As soon as he walked in everyone stared in amazement
He was the most handsome man
Any girl had ever seen
He had a heart of gold
A smile that lit up the room
He looked into the crowd
And he spotted her
All by herself
She was softly singing to herself
She didn't notice he walked up
Everyone else did
They just stared
He cleared his throat
And she was startled
He asked for her hand
And she happily took it
Her dream came true
They danced the night away
And he kept whispering
My love you look lovely this evening
