The Mermaid's Song
Surging, spinning, diving down and popping up
Kissing the seaweed with her tail
Delighting in the dapples of the sun’s rays
In an eternal ocean hug
Living with the fish and waves
Watching the sunset with a glowing face
A flick of her tail- and she’s off
Her auburn hair streaming behind her
Cascading down her back
Her bright blue eyes shining with pure exhilaration
Bright red lips turned up into an eternal grin
Salt water caressing her arms
A warm glow from within
One with the ocean, wind and waves
Exploring the forests of coral and watery caves
Her bright tail flashing in the light
Just a flash, that’s all you’ll glimpse
Before she’ll jet back off again
And you’ll always be wondering what you’d seen
But you’ll never guess what she had been
A sailor’s fantasy, the ancient mermaid
With her tail of gold
Has colored the world with stories of old
Since the beginning of time.
Nobody knows if the mermaid exists,
But next time you go for a swim in the sea
Call out for the mermaid of old
And you might hear a soft voice whisper
The mermaid? That’s me.
