The diameter of a his collar is 18 centimeters
dark blue with a fuzzy rim
a little buckle to tighten or loosen
bone shaped tag engraved
addressed to the owners
18 centimeters. 9 years.
a loyal companion
once young and spry
running from gate to gate
chasing around toys
by my side
helping me over come such a fear
and giving me laughter
when I needed it most
now the collar lays down next to my bed
reminding me at every glimpse
reminding me after every smell
that a collar is more than 18 centimeters
it’s 9 years of memories
loved and missed
