Childhood Longing
I vaguely remember
Sitting in a corn field
With you
On a Thursday at sundown
Scared of getting yelled at when we got home
Dirt ridden and hands muddy
I remember
Mom braiding my hair
Drawing towns with chalk on my driveway
Wishing that made up town was real
Swinging on the rope hanging from the tree
Making home videos with that old camera that barely worked
Building forts in the sleepover room
Burning the macaroni trying to cook for the first time
And laughing double the amount we do now
I’m sitting in the cornfield
Reminiscing
Waiting for you to join me
I vaguely remember our childhood.
