Fire in the Rain

March 3, 2014

It was raining
the night
you left
my tears
disguised by
the mist
you wouldn’t
smile for me
not even
one
last time

If I knew
that the rain
would have fallen
so hard
I never would have
stayed outside
for so long
letting it
soak me
leaving me
cold
so cold

I wish
the rain had
washed away
the pain

But it is raining
now

I see
your face
in the reflection
on the
windshield

But life goes on

Even when
you’re not
in it

The rain
brings pain
but I have learned
to love
the dull ache
in my chest

It’s all I have left of you

And I
miss you
when you’re gone
but time has past
I can’t help
but feel
better
now you’re away

Your love was
a fire
that burned hot
when I
got too close

I guess
that’s why
I love
these invisible
scars
on my
heart
you’ve left your mark
on me
and you
don’t even know

But I can’t
hold back the
tears
anymore
my mascara
runs down
my cheeks
yet I know it’s
what’s best
for me
so even if
you come back
I won’t
be there
to welcome
you home

I’m sorry
so sorry
but this
hurts me
more
than it will
ever hurt
you.

Love burns. Goodbye aches. Recovery takes time-- believe me I know.
