Who Mourns?
Who mourns the death of a hipster band lead singer?
Surely not his fans, who by this
Point have surely faded into non-existence,
Transmuted into sheep of some different shepherd
Interest now probably promptly and pretentiously peaked by a new band
Named after an obscure French Word,
With only one and half songs to their name, only available
By mail-in request
And delivered by a carrier pigeon wearing a scarf
Who mourns the death of a hipster band lead singer?
Surely not his parents, who, to tell the truth,
Stopped caring when he left home, moving into
A cardboard box, 100 percent recyclable and quite nicely furnished
Chartered accountancy would have fit him better, his mother said
Anything but a person singing songs called “Triangular Pain” and “The Tale of the Bespectacled Whale and His Great Demise (Part 1)
And at the funeral
Attended only by his mother and his two daughters,
Wyoming and Organic,
His final will and testament was read
“My vinyl records go to Organic”
“My beanie collection to Wyoming”
“And for you, mom, I gave you my collection of brightly colored and unnecessarily tight pants,”
And that day no one cried, but no one smiled
No one was sad, but no one was happy
And life went on.
