As Of Yesterday
I was once told of drizzle and hurricanes,
and I have to ask myself.
Which one of I?
Where do I stand in the storm?
Where does she stand under these dark clouds above us?
My peers are drawn to me because of how I stand out from my crowds, as drizzle stands out in a storm as a moment of clarity.
Not boring,
Not anything new,
But not anybody’s first choice at the end of the day.
As of yesterday,
This will change.
I will no longer be the hunted in this great race called life.
As of yesterday,
Nothing phases this storm front.
She is surrounded by a crowd because she is a hurricane in a midst of tornadoes.
Standing out because of being superior, not for being strange.
Standing out because of blending in with chaos.
As of yesterday, she is the rolling clouds on the horizon.
Drawing me to her,
without effort or even cause.
As of yesterday,
the horizon is in my sights.
Only steps away,
over mountains,
over rivers,
and through the hearts of beasts.
As of yesterday, conditions change.
I will be extraordinary in extraordinary situations,
instead of just blending in with my own background, and being an average man thrust into amazing situations.
As of yesterday, nothing is the same.
She will be extraordinary in extraordinary situations,
side by side with me,
instead of being that fantastic child of nothing but average conditions.
Why are my conditions so good, you ask?
Because I have people like her to strive for on the horizon.
As of yesterday, it is but steps away.
As of yesterday, conditions no longer matter.
As of yesterday, opportunities, like us, are infinite.
