Poetic
Poetry isn't a noun
it's not a verb or
adjective,
poetry isn't an art.
It's a state of mind.
You feel poetic when
you hear your favourite song
and the rain falls
on the windsheild so perfectly
that the lights of the city
catch in the corners.
You feel poetic when
you look out your bedroom window
and see a field of
untouched ivory snow,
seemingly shimmering
in the mid-day sun.
You feel poetic when
you sit on the bus
next to someone you love
and still get butterflies
in that middle-school crush
kind of way
when they smile at you.
You do not feel poetic when
it's 2 O'clock in the morning
and the darkness constricts
your veins and it's all you can do
not to trim it away
That feeling isn't poetic.
That feeling is pain.
