colors
Cultures used to define a certain group or race
Nowadays people just don’t know their place
People are mixed up and trying to fill an expected stereotype
You are supposed to wear Abercrombie and drink Starbucks if you’re white
You have to listen to rap and act like a thug if you’re black
If you’re Asian you’re supposed to be really good at math
If you’re Hispanic you have to stay with your race and speak your native language
The thing in common is there is so much tension in race
If you ever try to be yourself you feel out of place
Just because of the color of my skin I’m prohibited from listening to a rap song
What happened to society what went so wrong?
Our youth is throwing around the N word like it’s the hottest trend
They don’t understand the messages they send
Especially when they’re sagging
Claiming they’re swaging
When they don’t know what either one means
Especially since they saw a celebrity doing it on a tv screen
For centuries racism has been in the United States
You can look at graphs and rates
You can examine shootings or violence between colors
Everyone wants to blame others
But we need to look at ourselves
Why do we think it’s the black people who would steal food off the store shelves?
Why do we think that the republicans are tearing this country apart?
Why are all of the sudden you’re poor if you shop at Wal-Mart
Society says to do you
They don’t realize what they’re saying is not true
If you’re white and you act black you’re shunned and alone
I can’t even have an Eminem song on my phone
People think I act like this for attention
Like I desire acceptation
Like it’s some kind of fantasy I chase
People are saying I’m some kind of special case
I don’t know why people just can’t be the true person they really are
Just be your own shining star
Why can’t we just treat others the way we want to be treated?
But instead we have this cycle that is repeated
We treat others bad and think we deserve respect
This is what people now expect
That’s why there is violence and hate
We don’t apologize or forgive before it’s too late
Why do we look for others to rate?
Why do we think some people are so bad or so great
In the end we all live on the same Earth
We are all equal, and have the same worth
No matter what size, race, or shape
So all of the hate can wait
Because after all you have to run your own race
So instead of trying to change others
Come out from under the covers
And face your own problems
Because I can tell you in this world we all have plenty of them
