Blind
You wake up
You take a shower
You go to work
Did you notice the sunflowers growing in the backyard?
The neighbor's dog barks at his usual 5 am call time
Did you hear it?
You wake up
You take a shower
You go to work
You spent 18 years of your life..
to wake up,
take a shower,
and go to work
When did you begin to stop noticing the details of life?
The beautiful sun rise each morning,
The young girl holding her mother's hand as they cross the street,
The kiss between an elderly couple,
The remaining stems of dandelions lying in the grass
Did you stop noticing when the pressures of society sank in?
Or did you stop noticing at an earlier age,
When mom didn't fill the space under the Christmas tree?
Or when dad became angry at the piles of paper in the mail box?
This is when you stopped noticing
You've closed your eyes and opened them into a world driven by a routine drill
Brainwashed, you've become a number in the system
And again,
You wake up
You take a shower
You go to work
