Threadbare
The middle of the carpet,
worn to the last thread.
About to wear away
and full of dread.
The carpet at the side,
Still bright and new.
Nobody has used it,
or made it askew.
But the side stares in awe
at the middle of the floor.
How has it stayed so strong?
After pain, lifelong.
The strength it has shown,
Strength that the side has never known.
