Story Collector
There hiding under the table
Is a collector of stories
In her hands she holds the red threads
The lifelines of others, tangled and convoluted,
Crumbling sepia photographs,
Fading smiles and faint chuckling,
Gathered between her fingertips,
She is a collector of stories,
Her lips imprinted with the curling script,
Of the signatures of those who came before,
With every word web she weaves ,
The very dirt beneath her toes groans,
A testimony to those who have lived and returned to the earth,
Protesting "I existed, once, too"
