Lucky
The last time I had luck
was when you rolled your eyes
and tossed your bangs from side to side
“Oh, please! Don’t look surprised,” you said

A simple prayer, that’s all you said
for days and days and days
you said the light would shine on Earth
and He would be the end

 to hunger, poverty, disease, suffering
 “Heartbreak?” I asked
but you said and said and said
that I was silly and didn’t understand

the magnitude of a predicament this grand
and that I should leave and grant my faith
in Him. “In who?” I asked
but you said and said and said

that I was unworthy of His help
and that I must worship the Devil
if I thought that she was lying
but I don’t believe in lies
and I don't believe in you
