Little bird
Hopping amongst the trees
Rustling each leaf
Eyes darting about
Waiting to get out

Little child
Watching the tiny creature above
Listening to it sing its song of love
Wanting to keep it for itself

Teenager
Hiding your feelings away
Crying almost every day
Look out your window and see
What your world could be

The bird with
A broken wing
The child no longer sings
Adulthood has stolen its innocence away
Downing the coffee each day
As they type, type, type
And sign their lives away

What happened
To that little bird
Did its wing ever heal?
Did the child ever learn
That it’s okay to feel
Pain and sadness
Laughter and madness
What happens when the adult
Has now gone insane?
