You make it hard to be patient with those eyes
Round as the sun and big as the blue skies
How can I sleep with you on my mind,
Without you near me I feel so confined

My heart is empty when we are apart
Your picture on the shelf is a work of art
Holding on to the memories of when we were kids
Walking through the woods, off all the grids

We’d make the most of the time that we had,
Before school, in the basement, hiding from your dad
Painting images in our brain
Imagining the life we’d have, from our airplane

Flying around from place to place
That plane was our own, private breathing space
We would stay together for eternity
Flying through the clouds, so carelessly

Those were the days when we were young
Now we’re older, our stories unsung
Let’s go back to the good old day
When we’d lay in the bed of my Chevrolet

First we’ll have to move closer
And wait, for the war to blow over
The fighters I fly now, aren’t as good
As the planes we imagined, in our childhood

When the war is over, I’ll come back to you
A little longer we wait, but we’ll get through
Eight months more until I’m at your door,
The time I wait, is the price of war.

The author's comments:
I was writing song lyrics to go with a song on the piano me and a friend wrote, but then it evolved into a longer poem. I still use parts of it in the song, but not all of it.
