Favorite Quote:
"I have scars on my hands from touching certain people."

Part 1
Mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick.
Straight hair, cute clothes, & fake smile.
Trying to impress,
While not being “fake.”
Say one wrong thing,
Smile at one wrong boy,
Laugh at one wrong joke,
You’re out.
Always being watched,
judged,
snickered at.
Never able to say what’s on your mind.
Because
One wrong move,
One wrong look,
One wrong friend and
You’re out.
The gossip, whispers, and lies.
The hurt, the tears, and the secrets.
Never any peace.
Nothing makes sense.
Eyes all around,
following you.
Making sure you’re in your place.
Because if anything is wrong,
You’re out.

Part 2
Messy bun, makeup free face, and old sweats.
Music up loud, thoughts flying free,
and a real smile.
Not caring what anyone says.
Dancing around.
Saying what you please.
Being who you are.
Because
Who cares?
Singing along to the radio,
Laughing with friends,
Living with ease.
No longer caring what they think,
say,
or whisper.
Only caring about the here and now.
Because
Who cares?
The real you is here to stay
And the fake one
Thrown away.
Life’s not about fitting in, being with the crowd.
The judging, snickers, and gossip
don’t matter.
Stop holding back and
being too afraid.
Because
Who cares?

The author's comments:
This is about the struggle of being a teenage girl, or guy, and how most feel as if we have to be perfect, not one wrong move. But also to honestly just be yourself. Because that's who you are and when you're you you feel a whole lot better. This poem might feel like it doesn't come from the heart, but trust me it does.
