The demon is dead, the demon is dead,
I’ll take you to the river where he rests his head.
He wormed through my lungs, warm in my bed;
The monster which took my worth in his hands.
Tell me, how did you like me?
Was I a nice catch or companion?
Did your soul loosen on its rusty hinges
When I voiced my discontent?
Oh yes, oh yes.
You’ll say that instead.
Or perhaps you’ll claim conflict of interest
And say I had a screw loose in the head.
That’s fine. That’s quite alright.
I’ve learned to hold my own stead.
I learned that when I first entered Hell
And found you waiting to take my hand.
Some loyal companion! You left me for dead
And I watched you flicker like an unwanted star.
Your mother, your mother sang sweet praises;
Pious woman shan’t know the devil you are!
I’ll see to it. I’ll make sure of it.
I’ll let you be a cusp in their blind minds.
I’ll let you live on like a pharaoh, immortalized
In grand statues; I’ll watch your head drift
To some unknown place with them.
I’ll let them have their fun with you.
Perhaps they’ll set you in your ways again.
I missed you, I missed you; I missed your torture.
They can have you, and you can have them all.
They’ll known in time where I kept you hidden:
Beneath your demon’s unborn stars.
