An Encore for Little Girl Dreams
I've stopped my cautious tip toeing
But now I’m waiting for some sign, some sound
Glad to leave but sad for going
When the snow was still thick on the ground
How long, I can’t tell the time it seems
Since hands first drew back from splintered railings
Well round of applause for little girl dreams
Who believed in the sanctity of family, incapable of failing
The counters littered with shards sticking into my future
Pieced together into a hodgepodge mosaic
To remind ourselves to quit picking at those little sutures
Who knew how much this would take?
No longer feeling the familiar snag of socks on the floor
I’m still waiting for that apology and yet he still sits there alone
New drapes covering that old window, my home no more
I left her behind, I no longer condone
Oh how could this little girl have possibly known?
