Theme: Be who you want to be, no matter what they say.
The Bridge
Hundreds of cars travel beneath my bridge,
And I watch the world on an average day.
This is my go-to place,
Where I can stay calm.

The afternoon breeze whips my neck,
And the clouds move slowly across the sky.
Bright yellow headlights blind me below,
But this is where I can stay calm.

Horns, screeches, glass, yelling,
I’ve heard it all.
Even after seeing THE crash,
This is where I stay calm.

Will the world get better in their cruel ways?
Why did it have to be me?
Forget all my worries,
I can stay calm here.

This is my thinking time,
And where I feel relieved.
I’m not just the heavy kid,
And I’m very calm.

Everyone wants to get inside my head,
But I just want to be me.
I just want it back the way it was,
But I remain calm.

Soon this will be over,
But I will always be a witness.
Soon, I will leave all this mess,
For now, I can be calm.

No one knows what it’s like to be me,
And I wish I wasn’t like this.
My world has been turned upside down,
But I have to be calm,

Calm,

Calm.

The author's comments:
The book Kissing the Rain by Kevin Brooks inspired me to write this, because it is based on the main character and how he struggles throughout the book.
