Hello chair
that sits near the stairs,
and tips back ever slowly.
One day I know,
it’s me that you’ll throw,
and chuck down the deadly road.
But your cushion’s so soft,
and I sit on you oft,
and your arms are carved so lightly.
Forgive me sweet dear,
for they say I should fear,
your presence so close to the brink.
If I was strong,
I’d move you along,
but for now I know you’ll stay.
So I’ll wait it out now,
and work my old plow,
so I may carry you away from the danger.

The author's comments:
I wrote this to signify a relationship between someone who is charming and comforting, but lives a dangerous or criminal life, and someone who loves that person, but needs to stay away. The second person wants to help them but doesn't have the power to do so.

I really liked how you used the person's attachment to the chair as a metaphor for a toxic relationship. I think you did a great job of portraying how hard it is for people to leave relationships because of the familiarity of their partners, even when they know that their partners are not good for them.

Really like this, has a hidden meaning behind it. when i read ur comment, i was a little surprised because i thought it was about the ins and outs of life and always living with risks and waiting on the soft, comforting chair of warmth and comfort and temptations until you die and are tipped off the chair. i now realise the chair is kind of a person and i like that :) i've said this already but please could u rate and comment my poem sometimes and article goodnight? thank u
