a prayer for arms
She wakes
up in the middle of the night
at four in the morning,
that number flickers as she peeks at the microwave clock.
Sound asleep the house is vacant.
Creaks jump
from the floor with her quiet
tip-toe steps skimming
through the hall ways back into the dark concealed bedroom,
climbing with her sore and aching limbs
into those sheets
she will find herself curling
into the pillows wishing for arms
to catch her collapsing limbs from hitting the cement floors of this jail.
