Thoughts on growing up
They took away the magic
Stole away the dreams
Locked away the fairy tales
And forbade youthful innocence
They demolished the ballrooms
Put out the First Stars
And boarded up the wishing wells...
But not without replacement
They gave us responsibility for our daydreams
Boyfriends for our Princes.
High heels for our Glass Slippers.
Took our imagination in exchange for their freedoms.
They asked for the prime of our life as a price for their experiences
And willingly we gave away our childhoods
To partake in their world
As I stand and observe the graveyard of our youth
I secertly slide off the boards
And whisper my secert desires
Into the wishing well.
