Freedom

I have choices.

In the United States of America,
We are endowed with certain rights,
Unalienable rights given to us after several fights,
You can ask Uncle Sam out there, my Pop, my Pa.

Amongst these privileges,
These hand-held choices,

Are Life,

In which we must pay our prices,
For missing out on the bits of fun,
For studying and “benefits in the future”,
For weekends meant to do something useful.

For God’s sake,
You only live once!

For liberty,

For the freedom of traveling to every dimension,
For saying what you want to say,
For letting the words fall out in public,
For being brave to share your opinion,

For the pursuit of happiness.

To heck with that!
What YOU want to do…
Is out of your reach,
Is impossible,
Is crazy,
Is absolutely necessary, and right on every level,
The road not taken.

Trouble--scoff, snort,
The only pain we feel is psycho…logical!

Tell that to the famous theories created by scientists,
When nothing is the same to every eye.

Tell that to the ‘popular’ people,
Depressed high illusions,
Jumbled euphoria,
Their ‘life-saver’ is themselves.

These bindings need to be cut,
Freed slowly,
Like birds from a cage.

We will not be segregated!
By age,
There is no difference between being a “child” or “adult”.
By race,
The color of your skin,
Is not a book cover,
That you have the right to judge.

Until life,
Liberty,
And the pursuit of happiness,
Are ours once again,
As they were,
When they were endowed,
By our Creator,
Who is not endangered,
By a name or religion.

Constitution is the structure of our society,
It is a hot dog,
And when you focus too much on one side,
Everything falls out of the other.

Our community is not perfect,
But we can make it be,
Giving a little push,
To the WHATEVER philosophy!

The author's comments:
My inspiration for this poem came when I was frustrated at all of the homework and classes I had to attend over the weekend. All I wanted was some "free" time, and when I finally got that, I decided to write this piece. I hope that as my readers, you understand my feelings, and enjoy the attitude with which I wrote "Freedom".
