How you know you feel
When an umbrella catches melted stars
not puddles sprayed by passing cars

That’s how you know you feel

When it’s a medium to Heaven
not a paintbrush on a canvas

That’s how you know you feel

When your heart splits open with the sky
not sheltered in when lightning flies

That’s how you know you feel

When your soul shows the song of its past
not your breath fogged up on window’s glass
When fingers curve and edge from silence
not the notes handwritten on science
When it’s your soul trying to retreat
not the empty space between heartbeats
When the sun dies nightly for the moon to shine
not a colorful sunset across the skyline
When the drizzle of a summer rain
drips through the skin, a hurricane
When the heart aches for unseen lands
homesick for places you’ve never been
When love is a verb not a noun
you’re the tails-up penny on the street
 trampled on by dirty feet
 When a dandelion’s a wish, not a weed
but afraid your breath be filled with greed
you leave that flower in the ground
another day it will be found
sprayed down it will wither away
 till nothings left but a f r a y

 you feel.
