'Nando
A man with broken shingles
around a shattered window's pane;
he waits in angst
for a rock to be thrown at him
unknowingly.
And, as it does
his view is torn from him
as the darkness he yet discovered
greets him so unkindly
as to steal all air from his lungs
sending his voice to falter so.
It's been many a year
since he has found the voice inside
until recently
when his shadows spooned the sadness from his marrow
in the form of fossilized memories;
thick
like orange marmalade.
